Pour Some Sugar On Me

I have been lusting after this Kate Moss for Topshop dress since its original launch in Winter 2008, and finally its on its way to become a part of my closet!

I was in Edinburgh last winter when the style was reissued and was ablosutly penniless (and subsequently heartbroken) so when i found it going for a song on eBay, hows a girl to resist! I've got in mind to wear it for both my work Christmas party and a friends 21st so fingers crossed it lives up to expectations...

For the work i'll style it with heavy black opaques, messy hair and block heels for an Edie Sedgwick vibe, and for the 21st I'm going GLAM, slicked down hair, bare legs and some sort of shoe but I'm not sure what.

Anticipating the postman knocking on the door really cheers up my winter blues... I'm poor (as per) cold (serious lack of winter clothing, not aided by the poor sitch) and need a bit of sparkle in my life! Knitwear seems to be my downfall- i really struggle to layer up and look good- so a LBD and opaques is a step in right direction, right?

Mondays Child Is Fair Of Face

.... But in need of a haircut! Day 3: I'm still trying to finish this daily style that i started what seemed like weeks ago and get all the photos up! This is my look from monday. I had an early morning business meeting with my Manager in the AM so wanted to be smart and practical for running a shop and countless errands all day.

My mannish silk shirt is from Topshop- I bought it at the beginning of 2011 and it hung untouched for a good few months, but now its a staple i couldn't live without! Silk shirts and blouses are my go-to look and the foundation of many a good outfit. The leather trousers (same as Day 2) are also Topshop bought this season- so practical for work and tapping into the fetish trend with a high waist and zip back. My necklace is vintage and was given to me by my Mum is a mix of Tigers Eye beads and Mother of Pearl so its a rare find, i adore it!

Vinyl In Mono

Punk has always been my roots. I can try and deny it and glam it up all I want... but I'll always be a rocker at heart. Today i had the day off and spent it rifling through mountains of old clothes and shoes and came across these beauties!

My 'trapeze dress' is an oversize mens tshirt from Primark which i cut the neckline off (originally for a last minute fancy dress complete with false moustache- I was French), its super comfy and being breton I don't have to think about over doing it. I love 'borrowing' boys clothing for that very reason- theres something very sexy and alluring about a stolen sweater or a hint of androgyny.

I've chosen to team it with heavy denier black tights and creepers. My creepers are 'originals', I've had them since i was about 14, and when the cost £40 not £140. They're leopard print velour and suede, and so much fun! When i see girls wearing them now i wonder wether they know anything about the history: about punk, about music, about Mods and Rockers..?!

My Biker jacket goes everywhere with me, its only a cheap little thing from H&M but its cut brilliantly and despite the leather starting to fall away i get so many compliments! I love it for toughening up any look its the perfect partner to my creepers. I added a slicked down hair and red lipstick for a Parisian spin to finish the look.

Debbie Harry andCourtney Love. All punk in every sense of the word, the Fuck You attitude written over every aspect of them. Whatever the trends, whatever the generation, these are my Style Icons. For those about to rock, we salute you!

Where The Wild Things Are

Beautiful Illustrations by Gabriella Barouch- part of The Book of Nonsense. Ethereal, delicate fantasy images to make me feel all Christmassy! I can imagine her creating the most fantastic Fashion Illustrations if she ever chose! I stumbled upon her work while searching NOTCOT.ORG, i regularly find unusual work and designers there. Monkey Business

These are just a few pictures from my hard drive, taken over the past few weeks in leeds. I hope you enjoy my discoveries whilst on adventure with the Boy.

Icons Custom Toy Show

I snapped these at an art exhibition i went to with the Boy, its the first time I've shot anything in a while and i really love how they've turned out! I'm in no way a photographer but i really enjoyed capturing the night, and the blatant man crush the Boy has on the artists that were there...Want to see more? www.thehanggang.co.uk/blog/news/icons-custom-toy-show/

Chimp Menswear Store Leeds

Amazing Menswear store i found in one of the Leeds Arcades- small from the outside but full of really quirky luxe menswear. Its achingly cool; from the stock (think Levi's/Converse/The Hundreds/Crooks and Castles...), the layout, the taxidermy on the walls, the staff, just another incentive to be borrowing the Boy's clothes! www.thechimpstore.com

The photos really sum up what its like to be in my boyfriends shoes which i love, and seeing what makes him tick. He's a freelance illustrator and bar supervisor. Check him and his work out www.saintgraves.tumblr.com

We're not here for Prince we're here for the clothes!

Thursday 17th November 2011:
I'm up early, I'm and dressed for war! Like a million other girls around the Globe I'm waiting with baited breath for the launch of Versace for H&M. To get my hands on a tiny piece of Fashion History and to douse myself in Italian glamour (i hope). Except.... It doesn't quite run a smoothly as that; instead of waltzing home with leopard print bags laden with tropical silk and aztec stud leather, i arrive late, traipsing home sulking and empty handed, the only possibility left trawling eBay in the vain hope of a size 6 bargain.

Reports in the papers and Fashion journals suggest that the entire in store collections have sold out within the first 24 hours so at least i have some consolation i may not be the only broken chain mail hearted girl out there. Initially i wasn't keen on the collaboration (just down to personal taste) but the more i looked at it i just felt like i had to have a piece- its the only way that i could ever afford Versace and that leather dress would be just perfect for christmas parties!

Donatella Versace, questionable dye job aside, is a babe, fact. She has designed some of the most powerful and alluring clothing for the worlds biggest icons, become an icon in her own right and cemented her name as a powerful fashion force. She has designed clothing, jewellery and footwear, all of which celebrate the female figure, and for that she should be celebrated! Which isn't to say that Menswear dissapoints- actually selling quicker than the womenswear line- featuring Hawaiian prints, pink, and lots of leather. This is one collaboration which has lived up to all its hype.

Still, i hold out hope, with a 7 day return policy and a beady eye, surely i can still snare the OTT dress of my dreams?

The child who is born on the Sabbath day

Is bonny, blithe good and gay, apparently. So far I'm enjoying the experience of the daily photography, and looking forward to posting my outfits. The only issue is attempting to hijack a photographer to do so!

Day 2: Its a Sunday work day so I'm semi smart, its always busy in VM during the weekend, so I've chosen chosen leather trousers and a grey tshirt, using statement jewellery and footwear to jazz up my look whilst there. Trouble is, i haven't got any images.... which is a shame because its a really strong look and i receive several compliments during the day. The shots i do have are from after dark once the temp has really dropped and so has the light.

The photos were taken in the town centre, just in front of Harrogate Theatre. I'm disappointed by the quality just due to not having a proper camera and the lights being so low.

TOP: Leather sleeve mac Topshop, Leather skinny trousers Topshop, Smoking slippers Aldo, Grey tshirt (just seen) Topshop BOUTIQUE, Mock Croc bag Vintage.

And these are what you couldn't see! Tshirt Topshop BOUTIQUE and Shoes All Saints.

Saturdays child works hard for a living...

This is the start of my photographs from give or take the past week, and my attempt at blogging about daily style. I found it much harder than i anticipated truth be told, least of all persuading the unwilling boy to play camera man!

Day 1: These have been taken just after i got back from the Bonfire on the Stray and saw the most beautiful fireworks. I chose a simple black outfit and managed to fit more layers than i can imagine underneath for warmth! Instead of the usual wooly hat and gloves i layered a pashmina over my shoulders like a cape and wore a pair of my mothers old leather gloves with the fingers cut off for a Madonna vibe!

TOP:Leather fingerless gloves Vintage, Mens Tortoise watch ASOS, Inverted cross ring Topman, Nail Polish (just seen) Chanel Rouge Noir.

BOTTOM: Leather jacket (old faithful) H&M, Oxblood Pashmina Lyle & Scott, Silk tshirt GAP, Gold chain Accessorize. NOT SEEN: Black leggings H&M, Thermal vest Marks & Spencer, Studded pixie boots Topshop.

All images shot on the iPhone4 using Instagram.

Girl On Trial

Sites such as Lookbook and Facehunter have always been my go to on one of those 'what-should-i-wear' days- so much so The Style Diaries lies on my bedside table, yet I've have never blogged my own outfit choices...

For the next week thats what intend to do; to be my own inspiration and put not only trends on trial, but my own wardrobe. Watch this space.
